Davachi / Smith

Davachi / Smith is the collaborative musical venture of Sarah Davachi and Richard Smith. Recognized as an authority on vintage musical electronics, Richard Smith is an electronics technician and musician with extensive experience rebuilding high-end studio electronic systems by Buchla, Moog, ARP, Roland, Korg, and EMS. Over the last decade, Smith has amassed one of the most comprehensive collections of Buchla electronics, many of which have been featured in the recordings of his group, Von Bingen, among others. Sarah Davachi holds an MFA in electronic music and recording media from Mills College in Oakland, California, and has completed composer residences at The Banff Centre for the Arts, Alberta; STEIM, Amsterdam; EMS, Stockholm; and WORM, Rotterdam. She has released music with Full Spectrum Records, Important Records, and Students of Decay, and her writings on experimental music have been published in journals by the University of Victoria and the University of Huddersfield. Together, Davachi and Smith seek to disclose the sounds of electronic instruments from a bygone era in analog synthesis. Though independently active as performers in Vancouver, this is their first formal appearance as a duo.
