2012 marks the twelfth year of New Forms Festival. From Sept 13-16, NFF12 will be taking over the Masters of Digital Media building at the Centre for Digital Media campus on 577 Great Northern Way, as well as the Waldorf Hotel and New Brighton Special at New Brighton Park. This year, as part of the International Cities of Advanced Sound (ICAS) initiative, exhibition artists will address the theme of ‘Living Labs’.
For NFF 12 the exhibition is comprised of works that challenge traditional notions of the artist, audience and space. The works for NFF 12 examine different thematics around the renouncing and questioning of the technical vs human responses to interaction.
Merging works through sculpture, projection, sound art, robotics, 3d, architectural facades and generative computational aesthetics, the installations themselves speak to the current cross-pollination of contemporary art.
Through hallways, corridors, classrooms, exterior facades and the main hangar spaces, audiences will be enveloped by stimulation throughout, challenging notions of interventionist technology.
The exhibition as whole, in turn acts as a singular installation with numerous moving part, asking the audience to consider its role within the environment, both as spectator and participant.
